Summertime, trumpet and voice; when time meets passion!

SummertimeFL_ScreenShot16092011

I’ve talked about this subject before, but I think some of it bears repeating; I had suggested in the past that a passion of mine was “colorizing” older jazz standards and kind of updating them the way I see them without disrespecting the piece– you know, doing justice.

Why do I want to do this? Because amongst many things, I play trumpet and have been since as long as I can remember. Back in the day, I used to play in band in school, marching band before and sometimes after, and even a neighborhood band called “Black Mist”. Nowadays, there’s no one to play with– no band; that’s why I had to “make my own band” with these digital audio workstations like FL Studio X Producer, Finale 2011, Sonar LE and more… just so I can play my trumpet.

Some of the old standards or classics have vocals as well– like the one I’m doing now, Summertime. Again, I can’t find anyone to do the vocals– both male and female so I have to do the male voice myself and leave the female voice for another day! No operation planned, just talking out load…

So there you have it! What am I trying to do? Find a little soul, grab a little peace of mind and tell a little story (my story)… to whomever is listening!

If you grew up in Niagara Falls, you remember…

September 10, 2011 1 comment

Inspired by a fb web page with the same or similar name, the out pouring of love for our city has inspired me to put it to music. The words are simple as well as the idea; You can just add memories after the intro and complete the words for yourself– after all, they are your memories.

In addition, since I made the music, the basic theme, i.e., chord, beat and style (funk, dance, country, rock, metal) can also be changed if there are requests for it. I think there is potential for house music and even a longer line or slide dancing version to just have fun with it!

Summer Time– Jazz Trumpet

September 9, 2011 Leave a comment

This is another “installment” of a jazz project; I like playing trumpet but have no one else to with (band), so I make all the music/ make my own band just to play jazz trumpet the way I envision it… that’s the only way!

By making your own vision a reality, there are no arguments fro band members… enjoy!  Click the link here. Summertime

Sleepy Time Down South: jazz in the making.

August 13, 2011 1 comment

I posted a “re colorization” of Tenderly earlier. This one was done before that and the purchase of my new USB microphone, but I thought I should post it anyway. I was going to wait until I recorded it with the new microphone… been a little busy lately though, isn’t that always the case?

Again, I like to stick to the theme of the original music– somewhat, enough to get the old flavor–but the “colorize it” and at the end fusion it up a bit.

My main themes are Grand Piano, Standup Bass, muted Trumpet and new age kick (drum)… hope you like it?SleepyTimeDownSouthBflatTrumpet030711_1159AM

Tenderly jazz classic recolorized

August 7, 2011 24 comments
Re-post of an earlier jazz classic Tenderly I tried to update/ colorize; fixed a few issues like timing between trumpet and piano, lowered the bass a bit and added a little vocals. Just having a little fun with me, myself and I (band members); spent a little money for a better microphone (Condenser USB mic C03U Samson); multi-patterns (cartoid, figure 8 and omni); Progress is the product!TenderlyLeadSheetwMusic

Digital Audio Workstations (DAW) and making music

July 16, 2011 2 comments

I’ve been playing an instrument for quite some time and only recently started using DAWs to record my music. Prior to that I just played and give much thought to recording and arranging and stuff… what changed? The fact that as trumpet player, I can’t play with a band to get the sound I really want; I’m into jazz stuff– Miles, Louis, Clifford Brown, etc.

DAWs give that and much, much more! …from “cradle to grave”! Entering notes into sheet music, midi inputs and outputs, recording, mixing, effects, exports…

DAWs of choice; FL Studio 10 XXL Producer; Cubase5, Finale 2011… these ones I’m using; the others are also supposed to be good but the energy required to learn these DAWs makes to focus your efforts; Abelton 8, Cakewalk products…

Procrastination kills the spirit

February 19, 2011 1 comment

Those who play an instrument truly understand how much things change when we play our instrument. For that time, we connect with something that allows understanding, peace and clarity… the vibe. We express ourselves and really don’t care if anyone elase get’s– it would of course be nice if they did.

So don’t procrasticnate in continuing to learn your craft and in doing so seeking clarity…
