Remembering President Obama’s Inauguration

December 6, 2011 1 comment

I was looking back over one of my diary entries and ran across an intersting one from 20/01/09– President Obama’s Inauguration. In it he talked of irresponsibility and greed, doers and makers… and those who endured the whip,  plowed the hard earth, and fought wars. He went on to speak of the willingness to find something greater than themselves… values like honesty, hard work, loyalty and courage. And, most importantly, a new era of responsibility, new duties and defining our character! So what happened? Politics, that’s what happened!

When I step back and look at this one, I am soberly reminded of how fragile life truly is! For a moment there– one fleeting moment only, there seemed to be  hope for a new tomorrow; A hope for the future we’d only dreamed about previously– the real American Dream cause this ain’t it! … and there it went, just as quickly as it came– hope!  Bolting across the sky like Hailey’s Comet, never to be seen again in our lifetime! What to make of it?

We still have an opportunity to send a message; AMERICAN DREAM NOT FOR SALE! We have an obligation not only for ourselves, but to our children and their children. Don’t let the dream perish. “Blessed are the peace makers, for they shall be called sons of God, …[and] they shall inherit the earth…”(Matthews 5:9 and Ps 37:11). Get out the vote, be energized and in every corner, let there be light!
